As of 2023, the operating wind energy fleet in the United States consisted of over 71,000 wind turbines with 1,900 turbines brought online in 2023 alone. These turbines are typically maintained and managed by maintenance crews, remote operations, and corporate staff. Commonly referenced design standards provide some level of recommended foundation maintenance or monitoring, but do not provide detailed guidance. To address this gap, ACP’s Wind Performance Committee has developed recommended practices that provide detailed recommendations for the maintenance of onshore wind turbine foundations. In this PowerCast, wind performance experts will provide an overview of this guidance for the most common maintenance needs including inspections, preventative maintenance, and typical repairs.

During this PowerCast, attendees can expect to learn:

  • The general design, terminology, and operating conditions associated with wind turbine foundations.
  • Common failure modes of wind turbine foundations.
  • Detailed guidance on the means and methods of wind turbine maintenance and repair.
  • How changes in design and operating loads can impact wind turbine foundation maintenance.
