Tariffs 101

Tuesday, September 9, 2025 | 1 PM - 2 PM ET

Tariffs are a major element of the Trump Administration’s economic agenda, and they are straining the complex global supply chains that power the clean energy industry. In this session, ACP’s Vice President for Trade & International Competitiveness, Vanessa Sciarra, will provide a clear and practical overview of federal tariff policy, including who in the U.S. government has the power to set tariffs and how tariff policy is developed. Attendees to the program will learn about the tariffs used by the Trump Administration, what they are meant to accomplish, and how they may or may not achieve their objectives. An understanding of this topic will aid work in procurement, supply chain analysis, and manufacturing for clean energy components.

During this PowerCast, attendees will learn:

  • Who makes tariff policy in the U.S. government
  • How different tariffs are constructed and how industry gets involved in that process
  • What causes tariffs to change over time
  • How (and if) an industry can get a tariff exclusion so that certain products can be imported without a tariff
