Heads Up! Avoiding Struck-By Hazards

Wednesday, October 30, 2024 | 11 AM - 11:45 AM ET

Struck-by hazards occur when an object or piece of equipment makes forcible contact or impact with someone. Clean energy workers can be exposed to struck-by hazards through the handling of heavy equipment, moving machinery, or falling tools or equipment.

Brian Tramonte, Safety Manager at Mortenson, will review struck-by hazards and the environmental or situational causes of struck-by injuries at clean energy sites during this PowerCast. Brian will share real-world examples of struck-by injuries that have occurred, debrief the human and process factors that resulted in the hazard, and offer approaches for mitigating struck-by risks.

During this PowerCast, attendees can expect to learn the answers to the questions below:

  • How do struck-by hazards occur on clean energy (solar, land-based wind, offshore wind, energy storage) sites?
  • What human factors can contribute to a field operator experiencing a struck-by injury?
  • What procedures must field operators conduct to prevent struck-by hazards for themselves and their peers?
