As energy storage deployments continue to gain momentum across the country, project developers and host communities seek consistent standards governing the development and operation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) facilities. Resources including NFPA 855 and ACP’s Model Ordinance for BESS Facilities provide some guidance for best practices regarding siting and permitting, while state legislatures have taken other approaches to regulate project development. This program will bring together energy storage stakeholders from across the country to discuss and analyze different approaches to energy storage permitting, both in statute and by leverage state resources to develop materials and voluntary guidance for project host communities.
