American Clean Power Statement on Transmission and Clean Hydrogen Legislation

WASHINGTON DC, March 26, 2021 – The American Clean Power Association (ACP) issued the following statement after U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich introduced important transmission and clean hydrogen legislation.

“We applaud Senator Heinrich for introducing the Electric Power Infrastructure Improvement Act and the Clean Hydrogen Production Incentives Act, which each address important aspects of capturing the full economic and environmental benefits of America’s clean energy future. Transmission investments are sorely needed to help connect and scale up new energy technologies that benefit consumers, including renewable energy, distributed generation, energy storage, and demand response, while also remaining a necessity for traditional power sources. The Electric Power Infrastructure Improvement Act would facilitate these needed transmission developments, while supporting half a million jobs in construction, supply chain, and other industries and generating $90 billion in American economic activity. The Clean Hydrogen Production Incentives Act, which incentivizes the production of hydrogen derived from renewable electricity, would greatly accelerate green hydrogen’s ability to decarbonize many sectors of the economy, including the power and transportation sectors. Creating the new green hydrogen market in the U.S. would enhance America’s leadership position in innovation and cost-competitive clean technology, while creating new good-paying jobs.
