Power Perspectives: The Truth About Reliability in Extreme Weather

Thursday, October 10, 2024 | 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM ET

Most Americans only think about reliability when the grid fails. Therefore, grid failures can have an outsized influence on energy policy and public perception of transmission. As extreme weather events continue to increase in frequency and severity, they will affect the grid’s ability to deliver power consistently and reliably, and in turn, drive key decisions around grid infrastructure. In advance of disruptions and instability, diversifying energy sources with clean energy technologies can offer resilience.

This PowerCast, the first in a series of events focused on grid reliability in changing weather and load conditions, will look at how clean electricity resources keep the lights on and discuss any policy changes that are needed to ensure reliability on an increasingly strained grid.
