Madelyn Smerillo

Deputy Director, Siting & Permitting Policy

Madelyn Smerillo serves as Deputy Director of Siting & Permitting Policy at ACP, where she leads the development and analysis of regulatory and legislative policy on non-wildlife-related clean energy permitting. In her role, Madelyn works across teams and with external partners to advocate for efficient, effective permitting frameworks that support the deployment of renewable energy projects nationwide.

Prior to joining ACP, Madelyn was a Regional Policy Manager at Clean Grid Alliance, where she advanced renewable energy policy across the Midwest, with a particular focus on Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Madelyn brings expertise in ordinance research, legislative analysis, and policy development, along with a collaborative approach to problem-solving and stakeholder engagement. She played a key role in shaping and advancing legislation to streamline clean energy permitting in Minnesota—experience she now helps adapt and apply in other states through her work at ACP.

Madelyn holds a BA in Political Science and Sociology from Gustavus Adolphus College. Based remotely in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, she is passionate about collaborative leadership, a clean energy future, and the intersection of policy and community.

Outside of work, Madelyn enjoys exploring local coffee shops, singing in choir, and coaching her high school Speech & Debate team.
