ACP Statement on Empire Wind Final EIS

Press Release

Sep 11 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 11, 2023 – The American Clean Power Association (ACP) released the following statement today from Josh Kaplowitz, Vice President for Offshore Wind, after the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced the final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Empire Wind project offshore of New York operated by Equinor and co-developed with bp. This is the final step before BOEM issues a Record of Decision (ROD) on project approval, expected later this fall.

“We’re pleased to see ongoing progress at BOEM in advancing offshore wind projects as part of a clean energy future. Empire Wind’s two phases will send more than two gigawatts (GW) of clean, reliable, and homegrown wind energy directly into the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. and will power a million New York homes.

The Empire Wind projects will help grow a domestic offshore wind supply chain through domestic investment that will create thousands of good-paying American jobs, and spearhead the revitalization of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. This FEIS is the culmination of years of rigorous environmental reviews and the incorporation of extensive feedback from the public and is a testament to the offshore wind industry’s ability to meet our nation’s growing energy needs in a responsible manner.”
