Advice from a Survivor of a Caught-In or –Between Hazard

Wednesday, October 23, 2024 | 11 AM - 11:45 AM ET

Caught-in or -between hazards occur when a worker is squeezed, caught, crushed, pinched, or compressed between two or more objects, or between parts of an object. On clean energy sites, construction workers and maintenance technicians are exposed to these hazards due to their role in managing moving or rotating parts and lifting or positioning large pieces of equipment.

Jeff Bononcini, Senior Health and Safety Associate of Operations at EDP, will be sharing the caught-in or -between hazard that he experienced on a wind turbine at the start of his career as a wind technician. Jeff will share the human and environmental factors that led to this incident and lessons learned.

During this PowerCast, attendees will learn:

  • The caught-in or -between hazards that exist on clean energy sites
  • Human factors that can contribute to a technician experiencing a caught-in or -between hazard
  • Approaches and procedures (individually and culturally) that minimize risk to caught-in or -between.
