2011 U.S. Wind Industry Annual Market Report: Rankings
The U.S. wind energy industry grew by 30% in 2011 and provided 31% of all new electric generating capacity in the United States. With 6,816 MW added in 2011, U.S. wind installations now stand at 46,916 MW, enough to supply electricity for over 12 million homes.

In 2011, the U.S. wind industry installed 3,464 turbines or 6,816 MW. The left graphic breaks down the ranking of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for these installations. The top five OEMs installing turbines during 2011 were 1) GE Energy, 2) Vestas, 3) Siemens, 4) Suzlon and 5) Mitsubishi. OEMs often receive orders and deliver turbines in years prior to the year of project completion and turbine commissioning. Turbines delivered during 2011 totaled 3,583 turbines (7,132 MW) and this ranking is shown on the right. The top five OEMs delivering turbines during 2011 include 1) GE Energy, 2) Vestas, 3) Siemens, 4) Gamesa and 5) Clipper.
The total U.S. wind power fleet currently totals over 38,000 turbines and stood at nearly 47,000 MW at the end of 2011. Of these MW, over 40% utilize GE Energy or GE-owned turbines. Vestas ranks second with over 20% of the MW in the U.S. fleet. In third place, Siemens has a 12.5% fleet share and these three OEMs capture over 73% of the U.S. market. Mitsubishi, Gamesa, Suzlon and Clipper all have over 1,400 MW of installed capacity. Rounding out the top 10 are Acciona, REpower, and Nordex. In total, at least 58 different OEMs have operational turbines; however, many of these companies have since been purchased by other OEMs or are no longer in business.
In 2011, a total of 23 OEMs installed at least one utility-scale turbine.
