DOE announces winners of Innovative Offshore Wind Energy Project at WINDPOWER 2014

Today the Department of Energy, during the General Session at WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition 2014, announced the winners of the Innovative Offshore Wind Energy projects. In December 2012, AWEA applauded DOE for undertaking the initiative. Below is a statement from Christopher Long, AWEA’s Offshore Wind & Siting Policy Manager on today’s announcement of the awardees:

Today the Department of Energy, during the General Session at WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition 2014, announced the winners of the Innovative Offshore Wind Energy projects. “AWEA applauds the winning teams and Secretary Moniz, Assistant Secretary Danielson, and the team at the Department of Energy for today’s announcement, which is a significant milestone in efforts to launch the first generation of offshore wind projects in the United States.

Offshore wind energy is a well-established and successful global industry and America stands poised to capture this segment of the market. The winning projects will help to lower costs, accelerate permitting timelines, and promote stakeholder acceptance.”
