Wind Factory Watch: Vestas: Colorado

OK, so perhaps it is not exactly a “factory.” Still, today's announcement that wind turbine manufacturer Vestas will open a new research and development office in Louisville, Ky., should be greeted with applause in that city.

The office will initially be staffed by 46 engineers, the company said, and employ up to 100 during its first year of operations.

The announcement underscores that it is not only states with strong resources that stand to benefit from the creation of a major new U.S. manufacturing industry.

[UPDATE, just a few hours later on 7/7/10: Whoops, scratch that last. Turns out the story had it wrong, and the actual location of the office is Louisville, COLORADO. Apologies for the error–I've edited the headline accordingly.]
