Rep. Ed Markey kicks off AWEA Lobby Day

Rep. Edward Markey, the Massachusetts Democrat who now chairs a key Energy and Commerce Subcommittee, yesterday fired up more than 150 AWEA members who came to Washington to lobby Congress.

“We have an enormous political opportunity now, and if we capture it, it can revolutionize our relationship with energy technology. The wind is at our backs,” Markey said.

“Make sure Members of Congress known that last year, 42% of new electric generating capacity came from wind,” he said, telling the group it was crucial that they had come to Washington just as the stimulus bill was coming to a vote.

“Your challenge is that there is still an education gap. We have to educate people (about wind energy). But this is your time. “
