NextEra Energy receives Outstanding Commercial Achievement Award

We’re pleased to announce that NextEra Energy Resources is the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Commercial Achievement Award.

Each year, this honor is given to a company or individual that is responsible for significant improvements or advancements that benefit the entire U.S. wind energy industry.  It recognizes outstanding achievements that may drive demand; introduce game-changing technological, financial, construction or service innovations; enhance the industry’s political power or community acceptance; and generally make strides to implement policies such as the Clean Power Plan and achieve the Wind Vision for the U.S. power grid.

NextEra Energy is a well-deserved recipient of the 2016 award because of its pioneering role in advancing the development of wind energy through power purchase agreements (PPAs) directly with corporate buyers, and as the PPA leader in 2015.

2015 saw the full maturation of the corporate purchaser and other emerging buyers trend. Last year, 52 percent of the megawatts contracted through PPAs were signed by corporate and other non-utility buyers, marking the first time a majority of PPAs were not signed by utilities. NextEra Energy has been at the forefront of cultivating these new wind power customers, signing PPAs with companies like Google Energy, Kaiser Permanente, and Equinix in the last year alone, and they’ll play an important role in driving demand in the years to come.

“We are pleased to be recognized by AWEA for the work we are doing with commercial and industrial customers. We believe we are in one of the best environments for renewables development in recent history and the future of wind is bright,” said Steve Stengel, NextEra’s Director of Communications.

NextEra Energy is one of America’s clean energy leaders and one of the country’s largest wholesale electricity generators. It operates across 24 states, and is the is the U.S. leader in wind asset ownership. Their work to bring more wind power online has helped make the U.S. wind industry a major player in American energy generation, and their leadership is one of the reasons American wind is on track to quadruple in size over the next 15 years.
