Broad coalition asks Congress to invest in America’s electricity grid

A diverse group of businesses from the energy, manufacturing, construction and environmental sectors sent a letter to Congressional leaders today calling for investment in America’s electricity grid.

The coalition reminded lawmakers that ensuring reliable access to affordable electricity is necessary to keep business strong. Updating the country’s electricity grid to meet 21st century needs will play a key role in making sure our economy continues to grow.

Studies routinely show investment in new transmission and grid upgrades pay for themselves. American families and businesses could save up to $47 billion every year from improved transmission planning. Meanwhile, the Southwest Power Pool and Midcontinent Systems Operator, which together serve more than 25 states combines, found improvements to their systems could save each of their customers between $800 and $1,000.
