Bringing wind energy to Super Bowl XLIX
Last week, The Arizona Republic reported that the Arizona-based Salt River Project will be providing free wind energy to the University of Phoenix Stadium, the host venue for Super Bowl XLIX, as part of their energy sponsorship. This has reduced the estimated cost of powering the event by 75 percent!
Wind is powering one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
It takes an extensive team to operate and maintain the wind farms bringing energy to the event. And for many turbine operators, owners, integrated service providers, OEMs, asset managers, maintenance professionals, and safety managers across the country, Super Bowl Sunday, will also kick off the AWEA Wind Project O&M and Safety Seminar at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California. Beginning with a viewing and Super Bowl Networking Reception Sponsored by AMSOIL, Romax Technology, and TIMKEN on February 1 and continuing through the closing reception on February 3, this year’s event will be the biggest wind event in the country focused on operations, maintenance, and safety within the industry.
Developed with direct input and participation from owners & operators on the topics that matter most, the 2015 program is catered to the thousands of professionals that manage wind project assets and those that are out in the field day-in day-out. Here, they can also connect with dozens of vendors in the sold out exhibit hall, including Castrol, EDF Renewable Services, Honeywell Safety Products, HYTORC, Run Energy, Shermco Industries, Sentient Science, S&C Electric Company, and UL.
The O&M side features dozens of owner operators sharing their perspectives on achieving excellence. Experts will cover a broad range of issues from innovative blade inspection techniques to reducing white etch formation that leads to axial cracks in wind turbine bearings. One of the standout sessions on the Health and Safety track, includes a live, interactive outdoor rescue and response demonstration of the emergency procedure scenarios that wind energy professionals are likely to face, using a multi-level 30-foot tall training tower.
Keynote address stresses strong safety culture
Coming from a company recognized for its effective safety culture, Keynote speaker Joseph White, Global Solutions Architect – Energy Safety, DuPont Sustainable Solutions, brings his expertise on the psychology behind motivating people to adapt to new practices in their organization, with the specific aim of helping attendees create that culture of safety in other industries. White will also explain what DuPont has seen in the wind industry.
