AWEA newcomers looking forward to attending WINDPOWER

Every year WINDPOWER offers attendees a chance to build new relationships with others in the wind industry either by attending pre-planned networking events or by just walking the show floor. Attendees also have the chance to meet AWEA staff whom they work with from afar but may never have met in person.

I attended WINDPOWER for my first time last year and meeting so many of my favorite people working in the wind industry for the first time face-to-face was definitely a high point. Fortunately, WINDPOWER 2014 will offer attendees opportunity to connect yet again with AWEA staff.

Over the past year, AWEA has brought on board a few new staff members, including the following two individuals who joined our ranks just this past week.

Jim Reilly, Senior Vice President of Federal Legislative Affairs

Policy certainty is important to the wind industry and that’s why it’s important to have a strong, experienced leader driving strategic decisions on the policy front for the wind industry. AWEA is fully confident that it’s found the right person for that job. As AWEA’s new Senior Vice President of Federal Legislative Affairs, Jim Reilly will act as leader for AWEA’s very important federal legislative affairs program. Jim has been Chief of Staff to Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) for the last seven years, and previously served as his Legislative Assistant and Finance Director. He was a Senior Energy and Environment Advisor to the British Embassy and has been a key driver of energy and environmental legislation, working with the Senate committees on Finance, Environment and Public Works, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

Jim started this past Monday, April 28, and will be driving AWEA’s effort to obtain long-term policy certainty so that American wind power can continue to grow. In commenting on his arrival at AWEA, Jim states “I am very excited to be joining AWEA at this moment in time as the wind industry continues to grow throughout the US. I look forward to working with AWEA members to communicate the contributions and the promise of wind power to federal legislators as they consider and debate issues that are critically important to the economy and the environment. The WINDPOWER Conference in Las Vegas next week is an excellent opportunity for me to meet our members and hear what is important to them. I plan to spend time at the AWEA booth and I hope people will come by so I can say hello and hear what is important to them and how AWEA can be helpful!"

Brent Nussbaum, Senior Director of Membership and Business Development

Part of what makes AWEA successful is the commitment from each and every member. Without them, AWEA would never be in the position it is today to lead as the industry continues to mature. That’s why we’ve brought on Brent Nussbaum as Senior Director of Membership and Business Development. Brent brings to the table nine years of experience that matches up with the association’s goal to broaden our member services and support for the association.

Brent started at AWEA at the same time as Jim, this past Monday, and his first major task is to tackle WINDPOWER 2014 next week in Las Vegas. When asked about his new role, Brent states, “I jumped at the opportunity to be part of such a determined association. It’s also the perfect time, with WINDPOWER 2014 being just around the corner, I’m eager to begin meeting AWEA members in person and listening to their feedback. While growing the organization is a key responsibility, it’s even more important to make sure our members are having the most engaging membership experience possible.

If you’re making the trip to WINDPOWER 2014, make sure you stop by the AWEA booth to say hello to both Brent and Jim.
