Declan Flanagan, Executive Vice President and CEO Onshore at Ørsted
Ørsted is a global renewable energy company with operations in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. Publicly traded since 2016 and headquartered in Denmark, the company comprises three business units; Offshore Wind, Onshore Renewables and Markets & Bioenergy. In the United States, the company’s renewable energy portfolio spans technologies and geographies with onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and storage in operation or construction across Texas, the Midwest and Northeast markets. Ørsted has the ambition to be a global green energy major in the rapidly expanding renewable energy market with 30 gigawatts of installed capacity by 2030, enough to power the lives of more than 55 million people.
Prior to joining Ørsted, Declan was founder and CEO of Lincoln Clean Energy (LCE), from 2009 until its sale to Ørsted in 2018. By the time of its acquisition by Ørsted, LCE had developed and financed wind and solar power projects representing more than $3 billion in capital investment and over 2 gigawatts of capacity.
Earlier in his career, Declan served as CEO of the North American business of German utility E.ON. Declan joined E.ON in 2007 through its acquisition of Airtricity North America where he also served as CEO, having previously held various senior management positions with Airtricity in Europe before relocating to the U.S. in 2003 to establish Airtricity North America. In four years from a standing start, Airtricity North America grew to a valuation of $1.4 billion at the time of its sale.
Declan is the ACORE Board Chair and a former member of the boards of both the American Wind Energy Association and the Solar Energy Industries Association. He holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from the National University of Ireland, an M.Sc. from the University of Ulster and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
