About Cleanpower
We are a nonprofit public-benefit organization founded as Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies (CEERT) in Sacramento, California. Our team of professional staff, board members, and affiliates is comprised of scientists, environmentalists, public interest advocates and innovative energy technology companies working to promote sustainable resources and nonpolluting technologies to meet the world's integral appetite for energy. Our work is organized into discrete policy advocacy projects focused on renewable energy development issues. We were founded in 1990 originally to pool the combined resources of key public interest and environmental groups together with new energy technology private sector companies to jointly approach the California Public Utilities Commission for consensus policies to encourage greater utilization of renewable resources for utility electricity supplies. We have since expanded our activities before the full spectrum of federal, state, regional and local energy decision agencies and built our capacity to provide technical and policymaking assistance regarding cost effective, less polluting, and climate-friendly non-fossil fuel resources and technologies. With the rapidly expanding public demand for decreasing our national dependence on imported fossil fuels and the simultaneous public acceptance on the need to reduce our contribution to the problem of climate change, the time to build the foundation for the new energy economy has come. One of the key underpinnings to this growing effectiveness has been the recognition and support given to us by enlightened public interest funding partners like the Energy Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund, and the Western Clean Energy Campaign. |
